Hiking and Biking Trails

WV TRAIL INVENTORY

The West Virginia Trail Inventory application allows mobile phone and desktop access to publicly accessible recreational trails in West Virginia.

The West Virginia Trail Inventory project is funded by the WV Division of Highways to inventory, collect, and integrate all publicly accessible trails in West Virginia. Currently there are approximately 6,200 inventoried trails in West Virginia.

Beech Fork Marina and Campgrounds

Beech Fork Campgrounds has several trails, including Lost trail that is a great mountain bike trail.  Another good trail for hiking is the overlook trail, which starts at campfire circle.

On the Beech Fork Marina side, there are other fantastic trails, including Beaver Pond/Twin Coves trails.  The Spillway Trail has a great overlook of the dam and spillway.

 

East Lynn

East Lynn has several good trails. Many of them start or end at the above dam area.  The overlook trail starts at. the great recreation area and continues thru the woods with great views of the lake and wrap up at the Marina.

Another great trail is the Damsite Trail which goes along the top of the dam and continues into the Spillway Recreation Area.  Most of the areas have a hiking trail, all of which are very nice trip through the woods.

 

Cabwaylingo

Cabwaylingo is such dense forest, it makes for some great hiking. There is so many wonderful trails, it’s hard to choose one to highlight.

One amazing thing about Cabwaylingo is the amazing rock formations, and old stonework that has been done around the area.

 

Mountain Rim Bike Park

Located at Heritage Farm and Museum, Mountain Rim Bike Park has downhill trails through the Appalachian forest! Traverse the 10 paths of varying difficulty, enjoying the scenery and challenges from the top of the hill to the bottom. Bikes are available for rent, or you can bring your own.

Beech Fork Marina and

Rustic Ravines

Nestled in the foothills in Genoa, WV, Rustic Ravines cabin rentals is an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Our cabins sit on 300 acres of wooded paradise and are surrounded by 50,000 acres of private and public ATV trails, and other activities as diverse as kayaking, archery, fishing, hunting and our super fast zipline. 

Holy Cross Monastery

Holy Cross is a growing monastery consisting of more than two dozen monks, novices, candidates and layworkers. The monastery community is comprised of both seasoned monks who have lived very full monastic lives for decades, and many younger monks who have brought to the monastery a youthful vigor and energy. The monastery is located on 180 acres of land located 9 miles from Beech Fork State Park.

Camden Park

For more than 100 years, Camden Park has been the destination of choice for family fun! Founded in 1903, as a picnic area, by the Camden Interstate Railway, the Park has survived into the 21st century as a thriving traditional amusement park, building a rich history along the way!

Elmcrest Farm

Elmcrest Farm, located in Wayne, WV, is steeped in rich tradition. We are a multi-generation, family farm, devoted to sustainable methods that produce the best quality livestock, produce and value added goods possible. Everything from our Kitchen is either grown on our farm, sourced from local or organic growers & made from scratch with love. 

Toms Creek Family Farm

The farm has been in the family for 100+ years. They grow produce in the summer and process maple syrup in the winter. Keep an eye out for Maple Days each Spring.

Beech Fork State Park

This 3,144-acre park offers hundreds of campsites, miles of hiking trails and plenty of exciting lake activities for the whole family to enjoy until the sun goes down.

Cabwaylingo State Forest

Cabwaylingo State Forest is located on 8,123 heavily forested acres in southern West Virginia and has two campgrounds. 

east lynn / East Fork

With over 150 sites, visitors come to East Lynn and East Fork campground for camping, boating, water-skiing, fishing, hiking, hunting and picnicking.

Pappy’s Creekside Camp

Pappy’s Creekside has many tent sites available, as well as camper hookups. Many ATV riders use Pappy’s as their basecamp.

Water Activities

Beech Fork Lake

The sprawling 720-acre lake has 31 miles of shoreline where you can cast a line and catch some of West Virginia’s most popular sport fish. With it’s 9.9 HP limit, Beech Fork Lake is perfect for enjoying the lake on the pontoon or kayak, as well. 

East Lynn Lake

East Lynn Lake is 12 miles long with 1005 acres of water at summer pool and 44 miles of shoreline. East Lynn Lake has great fishing, as well as water skiing, jet skiing and kayaking.  

Twelvepole Creek

Twelvepole Creek is a 32.2-mile-long creek. The East Fork headwaters form East Lynn Lake. The West Fork flows north through Dunlow and joins the East Fork at the Town of Wayne. The creek then flows north again before draining into the Ohio River just east of Ceredo. There are many places to fish, boat and kayak.  There are 2 points for kayak access near Ceredo, and one new kayak launch in Wayne.

ATV Trails

Wayne County has some of the best off-road trails around.  You have to come to witness them for yourself!  You won’t be disappointed!

Hatfield McCoy Trails

The Hatfield McCoy Trails at Cabwaylingo is the newest trails in this network. ATV, UTV, ORV (such as Jeeps) and dirt bike riders will find nearly 100 miles of new trails to explore. Go here to get more details.

East Lynn Outlaw Trails

Winding around East Lake and the mountains connected to the lake are a popular spot for ATV  Riding.  However, you need to get with a local, do your research or contact Rustic Ravines or Pappy’s Creekside Camping to get your plan together.

Sugarwood offers a variety of tees ranging from 5,186 to 6,710 yards and is ranked as one of the best public golf courses in the state every year.

You’re sure to enjoy a great outing at Creekside. It features beautiful fairways for you to play and delicious dishes to enjoy year-round at the restaurant.

Beech Fork

Designed as 2 separate 9-hole courses. The Easy 9 are next to the park office and progress around the parking lot. The Pro 9 (with dual tees) are across Long Brand Rd. around the pool/playground/ball field area.

Municipal Parks

Wayne Municipal Park

Situated on Twelvepole Creek in the Town of Wayne, this little park offers fishing piers, a playground, picnic shelter, a baseball field, a basketball court and the recent addition of a kayak launch. It’s a great destination to have fun in Wayne.  

Paul T. Billups Park

Situated on the southern boundary of the Ceredo, the Paul T. Billups Memorial Park is the focal point for the majority of town activities. For physical activities, the Park is offers basketball and tennis courts, a walking path, and a baseball field.

Virginia
Point

Virginia Point Park offers access to the Big Sandy and Ohio Rivers from its boat ramp and camping along the banks of the river, here too, are large multipurpose sports fields, covered shelter, bathrooms. WV’s most westerly point with views of KY and OH.

Camp Mad Anthony Wayne

Named for frontier army general Anthony Wayne, it contains vast open grounds, swings and sliding boards, hiking trails, numerous picnic tables, an open campfire circle, and a lodge. Great for large get togethers. Contact the GHPRD for booking info.

Westmoreland Park

Westmoreland Park on Vernon St. in West Huntington is the perfect place to enjoy a game of tennis or shoot some hoops on the full-sized basketball court. Park amenities include a playground structure, tennis and basketball courts, and a picnic shelter.
